Palácio Belmonte | Lisbon

A stay at the Palácio Belmonte offers a truly remarkable travel experience. This boutique hotel has perfected the art of luxury in simplicity, as well preserving the rich history of the palace which dates back to 1449. In 1994, architectural genius Fredric Coustols purchased the Belmonte and began restoring the palace into its present day glory, beautifully intertwining its traditional appeal with modern day comforts.

Walking through the palace is entrancing; the historic design perfectly blended with contemporary features creating stunning views in every direction. It offers ten unique suites each named after a famed Portuguese individual from varying industries including the arts, science, and philosophy. Fredric used his immaculate eye for detail to decorate each of the rooms in distinct fashions using historical artefacts and specific colour schemes to further emphasize the unique character of each space.

The Library contains over 3,500 books to appease every mind and has a stunning butterfly collection on display. Next to the Library is the archaic dining room commonly known as the Governor’s Room; an extraordinary space soaring seven meters high and remarkably decorated with hand-painted tiles dating back to the 18th century. Follow the tiles into the elegant Music Room and onto the colossal East Terrace to indulge in the majestic views of the Atlantic and Alfama district.
