Quintessentially’s Insider Cities: Beijing

Quintessentially Lifestyle prides itself on having the inside track on the best places to eat, drink, or simply hangout around the globe. In this series, we explore cities around the world alongside our team members who live, work and play there. Get an intimate perspective on their personal favourite drinking holes, where they grab delicious eats and where they take their own visitors.

Cathie Guo (Communications Manager, Greater China) takes us through artsy corners, hidden gems and glamorous dining.

TRB Bites
No.95 Donghuamen, Dongcheng District
trb-bites
One of the hottest new spots from Beijing’s tantalizing dining scene, TRB Bites sits on the edge of the Forbidden City, offering the chicest and most relaxing afternoon tea in town. The Scottish cream budino and lobster sandwich is a must, but you will want to have your camera on hand as you eat.

Trip-major
26 Yang Mei Zhu Xiejie, Dongcheng District
A combination of traditional Chinese medicine shop and a modern fashion boutique, Trip-major was among the first to bring international labels like Anntian, Daniel Palillo, Bless, Henrik Vibskov and many others to China.

Opera Bombana
LG2-21 Parkview Green Fangcaodi, 9 Dongdaqiao Lu, Chaoyang District
restoran-opera-bombona-1
For fine dining, it is hard to go past Umberto Bombana with his surprising and delightful creations, especially when they come crowned with three Michelin stars. We recommend taking full advantage of your visit with the tasting menu. Loosen your ties and head over to an amazing culinary journey.

M Woods Museum
D-06, 798 Art Zone, No. 2 Jiuxianqiao Road, Chaoyang District
m-woods-a
Meet China’s new power collector Lin Han and his web-celeb wife Wanwan Lei at this private, non-profit art museum, located in the heart of the 798 Art District.

MEI at Rosewood Beijing5/F, Jing Guang Centre, Hujialou, Chaoyang District
rosewood-beijing
Located in the heart of the CBD MEI at Rosewood Beijing is a cocktail lounge, smart wine bar and plush whisky bar all in one. The Mint Julep Smash is a must. What’s more, pet lovers will be pleased to note the hotel rooms are dog and cat friendly all year round.

BNC (Brand New China)
NLG-09a, B1 Sanlitun Village North, 11 Sanlitun Lu, Chaoyang District
brand-new-china-1
A hidden gem inside the crowded Sanlitun area this is my favourite spot for emerging local designs. The 540 sq. metre space hosts over 150 independent labels. Be sure to check out Babyghost, whose designs can be seen on supermodels like Liu Wen and Ju Xiaowen.

Jing A Taproom
1949 The Hidden City, Courtyard 4, Gongti Bei Lu, Chaoyang District
jing-a
If you want to go local, go to Jing A. Burnished metal, drop lighting, old pipes and bare bulbs create an old school atmosphere where two North American born, long-time Beijingers will bring you the best beer in town.

Long Jing
Building 22 Courtyard 4 Gongti Bei Lu Chaoyang District
Next door to Jing A Taproom is the modern teahouse, Long Jing. The calm and tranquil space makes it a perfect daytime spot to meet friends or work away from the office, but what makes it special are the ‘cockteals’: creative tea infused spirits.
