We are constantly reminded that ‘life is too short’ and encouraged to ‘seize the moment’; meanwhile the rise of social media has cleared the way for the widespread use of life-affirming hashtags like YOLO (You Only Live Once) and celebrities sharing maxims on how to lead a more fulfilled life. While I am all for an optimistic outlook, it is sometimes difficult to reach for the positivity within when you are packed in on a sweltering train on London’s Underground, with the highlight of the day most likely comprising a dash to the nearest Pret a Manger at lunchtime to grab a tuna baguette.
Fortunately, I have discovered a place whose whole raison d’être is to celebrate life and enjoy every moment to its fullest. This place is Nikki Beach Marbella. Opened in 2003, the beach club is located on one of the finest white sandy beaches in the area and boasts a stylish new pool area and an extended entertainment space following last summer’s extensive refurbishment. Offering guests the Ultimate Beach Club experience, the space is a little slice of heaven, with its signature plush, all-white sun beds, chic drapery and white teepees.
Boasting numerous locations worldwide, including resorts in Mexico, Thailand, Morocco, Spain and the US, Nikki Beach started as Café Nikki – a small garden area at the address of 1 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach. The space was created as a tribute to Nicole Penrod – daughter of owner and founder of Nikki Beach Jack Penrod – whom tragically passed away after a fatal car accident. From the first official opening of Nikki Beach in Miami in 1998, Penrod made the move to open various resorts across the Atlantic, including Marbella and St Tropez, and then expanded to Marrakech, Ibiza and beyond, with the group opening their first permanent hotel in Porto Heli, Greece last year. Nikki Beach has now evolved into a fully-fledged lifestyle brand, incorporating clothing and boutiques, music and the Nikki Style magazine and is now looking forward to the launch of the new Nikki Beach hotel in Dubai, which is sure to dazzle guests and residents with its unique sense of fun and ϋber chic style.

The brand’s Marbella resort is settled on the sands of the Costa del Sol; an area which, despite not holding the finest reputation, does still contain little pockets of excellence. Attracting the world’s jet-setting elite, this is the place to be seen in the southern Spanish resort and the beach club kicked off the summer season in style with its annual White Party: an occasion where one can really be immersed in the ‘Nikki Beach Lifestyle’. With an all-white dress code and a line-up of sensational entertainment, this is an evening of extravagance, festivity and fun, first and foremost. Nikki Beach was born from a desire to celebrate life and it is clear that every element of the brand has been conceived to revolve around this idea. As such the party was a whirlwind of superb sushi platters, cocktails, live musicians, dancers and spectacular fireworks.
The morning after, Nikki Beach triumphantly thwarted any post-party blues, with an aptly named Recovery Brunch, where you are treated to an extensive buffet and unlimited Bellinis. Having a charming waiter bring ice-cold cocktails straight to your bedside is the ultimate tonic after an evening of excess and I would recommend it to anyone.
Setting the standards for beachside panache, Nikki Beach is perfect both as a place to relax and as a party destination. The brand embodies an enthusiasm for life which is infectious; so infectious in fact that I managed to bring a strain of it back to London, meaning that all of a sudden those bothersome tube rides don’t seem so bad.
