Mert Dorman

Mert Dorman is Vice President of Sales department in Turkish Airlines. The company, by its significance, belongs to the top world airlines companies when it comes to the number of passengers carried. In the headquarters of Turkish Airlines in Istanbul, which is located at the airport Ataturk, we talked with Mr. Dorman, who introduced us more closely to the company and the functioning of such a large system. Through this interview we get to know some of features of the company and why it achieve great success in air traffic.

W: Can you describe the current state of the Turkish Airlines fleet. How many planes do you have in the fleet?
At the present, Turkish Airlines fleet consists of 306 aircrafts and it still grows steadily. There are more than 200 aircrafts ordered by 2021.

W: How your company develop the plans for the acquisition of new aircrafts?
According to our growth strategies, the proposal of purchasing new aircrafts is made by Investment and Technology General Manager to the Board for approval.

mert-dorman-1W: How many destination you currently cover and how you search for or decide to open a new destinations?
As of April 2016; Turkish Airlines flies to 288 airports in 113 countries. The possible new flight destinations are determined by Directorate of Sales and then, the feasibility reports of these possible destinations are prepared by Directorate Production Planning. These reports are sent to our Board for the ultimate approval of commencing new destinations.

W: What destinations are the most visited and which destinations would you like to develop even more?
Excluding domestic destinations, the top 3 destinations by passenger number of Turkish Airlines are London, Tel Aviv and Paris. As being a network carrier, Turkish Airlines endeavors to develop all of its actual destinations and looks for new flight destinations.

W: How do you, consistently year after year, have increased the number of passengers?
For the last 10 years, Turkish Airlines has grown rapidly by number of aircrafts and destinations. It also has increased its service quality and so its customer satisfaction. It has been rewarded as The Best Airline in Europe for 5 years in a row. It also has the awards of Best Airline Catering in business class and Best Airline Lounge.

W: How do you recruit and train crew in airplanes?
Trainings of new cabin crew is conducted by the Directorate of Training department which has the latest technologies in aviation industry.
